New Revolutionary Laser for Leg veins

Completed my training visit at Allure Medical Spa, Detroit for "endovenous laser" procedures. The procedure entails using laser technology to ablate or "burn" the varicose veins in the legs. Results are permanent with no downtime to the procedure. I saw many cases and tried my hands on a few patients under the guidance of Dr. Charles Mok, the Vascular Specialist at Allure. The staff at their Vein Centre were helpful and obliging, especially Deneen, the Ultrasound tech, and Greg the Nurse Practitioner.

I was initially apprehensive with the actual procedure, but after watching Dr Mok's skilled technique as well as his staff's efficiency, I am confident that now we can have a safe, longterm nonsurgical remedy to the problem of leg veins.



Dr Mok is one of the first doctors to be board certified by the American Board of Phlebology (treatment of veins) : he has specialized in the treatment of varicose veins for several years and has performed thousands of laser vein procedures.






WHAT ARE VARICOSE VEINS?
Our legs are made up of a network of veins. Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart, they arBolde also a source of a common problem-vericose veins and spider veins.












Varicose veins are enlarged veins that can be flesh colored, dark purple or blue. They often look like cords and appear twisted and bulging. They can be swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. Unsightly and uncomfortable, varicose veins can promote swelling in the ankles and feet and itching of the skin. Varicose veins occur in almost any part of the leg but are most often seen in the back of teh calf or on the inside of the leg between the groin and the ankle. Untreated, symptoms are likely to worsen and can lead to venous ulceration (open wounds).

  • Swelling in the legs

  • Persistent itching or irritated rash on the leg

Varicose veins affect an estimated 10%-20% of the adult population, the majority of them are women.



PROCEDURE for LEG VEIN ABLATION



1. Full Medical History and Physical Examination



2.Ultrasound Mapping of the veins in the leg to document any thrombosis, reflux and perforators



3.Under Ultrasound guidance, identification of vein and insertion of laser fibre optic. After local anesthesia given, laser abaltion is carried out. Procedure lasts only 10 - 20min.



4.Wrapping of leg in compression stocking. Patient can go straight home and must walk around as much as possible.



5.Followup review after 1 week.

The lasers are particularly suited to treat small spider veins when a needle can not be used.

Using a laser, spider veins disappear over time. The procedure itself does not take too much time at all, and the amount of pain involved is minimal.

Automated Hair Transplantation

Finally, something to write! After returning from Italy after the V2LR training, I became interested in a new technology for Hair Transplantation called the S.A.F.E.R. techniquee using the French made PUNCH Matic machine. Traditionally, hair transplantion is a very time consuming process taking around 6 to 8 hours of tedious and meticulous work.
